Project Origin
Flowtech Water Solutions recently supplied and commissioned a combined use Cold Water Booster Set feeding the domestic water system and the domestic sprinkler system at Discovery Quay 2 in Salford.
Discovery Quay 2 is a 400 bed student accommodation block spanning over 15 floors containing communal and lounge spaces. Flowtech was contracted to design and specify water boosting equipment for this latest development.

Project Requirements
Discovery Quay 2 posed several challenges with a required combined storage capacity of 36,000 litres to cover both domestic and sprinkler water storages along side a 4 pump booster set suitable to cover both domestic and sprinkler requirements.
The unique features of the Flowboost Pro Booster Set enabled this project to be successfully delivered in the proposed configuration without extending the plant room or situating the cold water storage tank externally.
In addition to the booster set and tank Flowtech were also involved in the specification and selection of items from our CAT5 Booster and Pressurisation Unit ranges along with distribution of Circulating Pumps for the HVAC system.
Our Approach
When Flowtech Water Solutions were initially approached for the project Discovery Quay 2 it became immediately apparent space was at a premium given the high specification required for the project.
Flowtech set to work basing our proposal around a 4000 x 3000 x 3150 metre tall internally flanged tank and the suitable four pump booster set from our Flowboost Pro Cold Water Booster Set range, with its market leading features such as multi master surge protection, true stand by facility to drastically reduce the tank capacity and our additional set point to increase the delivered pressure on activation of the sprinkler system.
Results
Manchester’s exciting new development, Discovery Quay 2, is one step closer to completion thanks to Flowtech Water Solutions. Flowtech played a crucial role in the project by supplying and installing state of the art water boosting system, heating circulation and pressurisation unit equipment, ensuing a consistent and powerful water solution throughout the entire development.
