Manchester Flats, High Rise Refurbishment Projects
As part of numerous water system renovations in Manchester. Flowtech Water Solutions were extensively involved in the design, installation and commissioning of new equipment.
In November 2013, Flowtech were contacted by a major building maintenance company. they were requested to offer replacement booster units for a number of high rise buildings in the Manchester area.
At first this would seem relatively straight forward as the performance of the existing units was easy to determine. There were to be 14 systems to be changed and all were required to be completed within a designated time frame. The client wanted to change the old fixed speed booster units for more reliable, energy efficient systems. There was also a consideration that all equipment must have a comprehensive water hammer systems due to the heights of the buildings.
Flowtech embarked on a mission to ensure that all equipment to be supplied was suitable and also was able to fit in the plant rooms. On visiting all 14 plant rooms it became apparent that there was a mixture on competitors products. Some of the replacement units would need to be bespoke, this due to pipework layouts and control panel positions all being different.
Each individual area was measured and details of the pipework positions were drawn out to ensure that on the day of installation, there weren’t any un-necessary delays. The projects would prove to be an immense challenge. Flowtech had to provide units that were suitable in performance, fit through single door access in some cases, and have the control panels in the correct positions in relation to the pipework. What also made the project difficult was that the original units would be removed and new systems installed and commissioned on a single day. The plan was to minimise the length of time that the occupants of the building were without water.
Over the course of several weeks, units were supplied to site on dedicated transport. On arrival of the new equipment, the contractor removed the old units and began to install the new, variable speed systems. Flowtech provided a commissioning engineer to be on permanent standby on the day of installation. This ensured that all aspects of the work ran smoothly.
The projects were completed much to the satisfaction of the end client and the maintenance contractor. This has led to Flowtech being appointed as the preferred supplier on the next phase of works. All equipment was provided with comprehensive warranties and is backed up by Flowtech Water Solutions’ 24 Hour/365 day a year response program.
